May 22, 2007 ~ Found out we were pregnant!! Court took a pregnancy test this morning before work and was so excited that she
couldn't even wait 5 secs before telling dad! Avery ran down the hall with the pee laden pregnancy test stick reading [+]. This time Courtney only
took one test, which quickly turned positive.

June 13, 2007 ~ Our first appointment @ Piedmont OBGYN with Dr. Lowder. We found out the due date is Feb. 8, 2008. Can't say that we
like this practice as much as our one in FL...we miss Gloria!

June 2007 ~ Courtney embroidered a shirt for Avery that said 'Future Big Sister' and she wore it to Court's Cousin Chase's Graduation party
where all the Dukes were in full force. Avery and mom were a big hit. Then Avery wore it to Grandma Hodor's house and with a much delayed
reaction and a little explaining about what "Big Sister" really means they all got it too.

July 7, 2007 ~ Second appointment @ Piedmont OBGYN with Dr. Demchak. We heard his heartbeat for the first time.

August 14, 2007 ~ We switched OBGYN practices to Eastover OBGYN and saw Dr. Jain. Now that was more like it... Not Gloria but this new
place will do just fine.

August 22, 2007 ~ Courtney felt the baby move for the first time, which is a few weeks earlier than she felt Avery kick. Good ol dad thought for
a second that it might be twins but the doctors assured us that there is only one kicking in there.

August 24, 2007 ~ All test taken at the last visit came back normal, which is always a relief but that shall be the last time a Bogan child will be
called normal... sorry, buddy.

September 11, 2007 ~ We found out its a BOY and although excited, we were kind of stunned for a while. We thought we were destined to
have all girls and convince ourselves to expect it, but from the ultrasound the tech convinced us it was going to be a boy. This really screwed up our bank of possible names. On this visit they moved up the due date 3 weeks to Jan. 18, 2008. THREE WEEKS!!! They assured me that its give or take three weeks, I just think its give or take when its convenient for the doctor'
s records.

January 23, 2008 ~ 3:50am Courtney woke up this morning with wet boxers and a little anxiety, she changed her shorts and went back to bed. 4:50am she woke up again with wet boxers and a wet spot on the bed. She really couldn't tell when the contractions started or stopped but knew it was time. 6:00am we both decided to just get up rather than pretend to sleep. We made breakfast and when big sister Avery woke up we got her ready to go to school. Court felt like she would have time to drop Avery off at school and still make it to the hospital so once we got ready, hurrying just a little bit, we headed to bring Avery to daycare at 7:00am. I think Courtney, now feeling her contractions start and stop needed that last interaction with Avery at school. Dad seeing Courtney feeling the contractions start and stop needed to calm down and not be so anxious to get to the hospital. Well, following the drop off we began our trek to the hospital which is about 30mins away on a good day. For the next hour we sat in traffic on our way to the hospital. Courtney insisted that she was going to make it, but dad had the phone in hand and almost called 911 for an ambulance or police escort or something. Court's contractions were increasingly painful. I barely held off from running red lights and deciding it was time to pull over and deliver in a burger king parking lot next to Providence Road.

Once we made it to the hospital we checked in and Arden the labor nurse set everything at ease. Courtney must have felt a little more relaxed because the strength of her contractions slowed and everything seemed to calm down...sort of. We check in at 8:00am and Courtney was 6cm dilated and after two hours or so of contractions she was 8cm dilated. Courtney did not have an IV or an epidural so she could move around and decided it was time to manage the pain in a nice warm labor room shower, it worked so well with Avery helping Court through the contractions. I remember with Avery Court was in the shower for about 1 hour. Now being in the shower for only 15-30mins she felt a different kind of pressure and the nurse promptly asked her to get back in the bed so they could monitor the baby. She checked Courtney and said she was 9+cm dilated and with one more contraction she could push if she wanted. Courtney wasted no time and began pushing. I could see the look in Courts eyes, it seemed Courtney's plan was the harder and faster she pushed the quicker the pain would be over. Her plan worked...she probably pushed for no more than a half an hour and along with the cheers from the nurses Cole's head was out. I think there must have been 6 or so people in the room at the time of delivery excluding mom, dad and baby. I remember that with Avery it didn't hurt Court when she delivered Avery's body so I only noticed that when Court had to give an extra push to deliver Cole's body. Once born the Doctor began everything she needs to do post delivery and I heard the nurses saying "I can't wait to see how much he weighs." I followed the nurses over to the baby prep area and scale and one of the nurses began explaining to me that the scale will read grams first because that is what she needs to document and then she will switch it over to lbs. Once the grams popped up on the scale the nurses collectively said, "wow, he is big." Colton James came into this world a little red weighing in at 9lbs 8oz, 21.25 inches long at 12:04pm on January 23, 2008. His weight is just really a joke to us, there is no way our baby could weigh that much.

Once in the nursery, Cole was laying is his tray looking...well, bigger than all the other babies. The nurse said he is big and broad compared to all the others, incidentally that nurse had a baby over 9lbs too. Around 5:00pm, the pediatrician, Dr. Culpepper (who works with Courtney), checked on Cole and said he looked great and there were no problems. Courtney proved her SUPERSTAR status once again, and is the focus of much amazement when people are told she gave birth to a 9lb8oz baby all natural. We had an appointment on the 22nd and the doctor guessed the baby to weigh about 7.5lbs. Courtney says if she had known Cole would weigh over 9lbs she couldn't have handled it. Courtney was awesome, she had control the whole time and through all the pain she never stopped. Cole and the rest of us are so lucky.

That night, Avery came to visit her new little brother. Edmund and Emily brought her to the hospital room and her first question was, "Where's baby Cole?" Cole was very popular and had lots of visitors! The aforementioned Edmund and Emily, Donna Hendley and Pam Brazas who work with Court came to visit and so did Allison, Matt, and Alden Wyatt (we had dinner brought to us both nights!!).

January 24, 2008 ~ Dr. Culpepper performed Cole's circumcision and let me be in the room, I was very excited when I was NOT asked if I wanted a souvenir.

January 25, 2008 ~ Home from the hospital!. The hospital check out was a bear but we made it home. Cole checked out of the hospital weighing 9lbs1oz. Since Cole is such a hoss he barely fit in the hat Court and I chose for him to come home in. Had we known he was coming out 1 month old we would have prepared accordingly. Avery and Saige were excited to greet our new family member and continued on as if nothing had changed at all!

January 28, 2008 ~ Cole's 1st appointment. Dr. Plonk examined him and said everything looked good. He weighed 9lbs13oz (95%) and was 21.5in (95%). During the appointment Dr. Plonk repeatedly asked if his weight was right, how are we supposed to know...I mean darn right his weight is alright, right? The monster child had to make a follow up appointment to get rechecked in a week. Dr. Plonk also commented on how he is already able to pick his head up...its not all fat.

January 30, 2008 ~ Cole's first trip with the family to Pizza Night! In attendance was Miss Lindsay & Miss TT from daycare! We may have 2 kids but we won't miss Pizza Night.

February 1, 2008 ~ Cole's first bath, which went surprisingly well. Good job Cole for making it easy on your folks. He does love the water (unlike his sister).

February 5, 2008 ~ 2nd doctor visit with Dr. Plonk and he said everything looked fine (even though he's a Monster Baby). Cole weighed 10lbs 9oz and was still in the 95% for height and weight. At the appointment Dr. Plonk applied some silver nitrate to Cole's drying umbilical cord and this evening the outer part fell off. Courtney and I both will refuse to save that and put it in his scrap book.

February 15, 2008 ~ Cole is excellent on lifting his head, he puts in a strong 15 secs before the head dive.

February 25, 2008 ~ Cole's 1 month doctors appt!. He weighed in at 12lbs 15oz (upper 95%). The doctor says he is proportional so we don't have to worry about his weight... yet!!! You know the reason for the category Upper 95%, because there isn't one. Yes he's above the the last category so they call it the Upper.

February 27, 2008 ~ Even though Courtney spends a lot of time up at night with Cole she has discovered that Cole loves the bath before bedtime. She now can get him to sleep for a good 3-4 hours at the first shot after a bath. Court can also get Cole to smile back at her sometimes after she tickles his chin.

February 28, 2008 ~ We set off on our first big family trip with both kids. We traveled to Florida to visit our old stomping grounds and for Uncle Richard's Wedding. Cole did very well but we could tell that at the end he was definitely getting tired of being away from home. At the wedding everyone had their chance to hold Cole because mom was busy with Avery and dad was busy with the wedding. It must be very tiring to be passed around from person to person getting love from everyone. We also discovered that Cole might be the noisiest baby in the world. Staying close in the hotel throughout the day and night we realized he was always making some noise...grunting, slurping, you name it. It is amazing that such a little thing can make that much noise.

March 13, 2008 ~ Tonight while Cole was laying on the bed, he rolled over from his stomach to his back all by himself. He eats so much he should be strong enough by now.

March 22, 2008 ~ Cole was in his bouncer today and was reaching for the toys hanging on the bar overhead. He might have a lot of practice at reaching for those toys because he might spend a lot of time being in his bouncer, especially when mom is cooking!

March 27, 2008 ~ Cole's 2 month appointment with Dr Plonk. Needless to say Cole did not get any smaller. He was 15lbs 12oz, that's the UPPER 95% and was 24.5in long. But all looked good and he was healthy. So, he could weigh 50lbs as long as he's healthy, as far as we are concerned. He got 3 shots and one oral vaccine and he did amazingly well.

April 14, 2008 ~ Today was Court's first day back at work. Courtney has had much anxiety about this day, as one could imagine. Court and I have to believe Cole also has enjoyed their time together over the past 3 months. He's a monster child but Courtney has got him doing well. She takes such good care of him that it was very hard for this time to end and we can only hope that he enjoys and does as well as Avery going to daycare. We dropped him off and he never cried which made it a lot easier for us. It also helped that the staff was great and picked him up right away. He did very well and still seems to be a pleasant child, now only if we can get him to sleep through the night.

April 18, 2008 ~ Cole rolled over from his stomach to his back while laying on the floor today. It was the first time we saw him do that on the hard floor, that's a lot of weight to move!

May 14, 2008 ~ Cole is getting to be very animated, he is a very happy baby and smiles a lot. He does try to talk with a "GeGeGeGeGeGe" sound and will repeat if after us. He is still a monster child and is as big as the 6 month olds in his class at daycare.

May 27, 2008 ~ Cole's 4 month appointment with Dr. Plonk. Despite sister Avery not behaving during the visit we got all our questions answered. He's doing just fine, and the mega quote of the day come from Dr. Plonk, "He's getting closer to being on the chart." This was in response to Cole's seemingly large presence for a 4 month old. The Doc said all is good, he's progressing right along track for the upper 95%tile. He weighed 18lbs8oz and was 26.25in tall.

June 5, 2008 ~ We can't delight in the fact that Cole sleeps through the night but one exciting thing Court noticed when she went in to his room during the night was that every time, he had rolled over to his belly. This was the first time he rolled from his back to his belly by himself. I guess there will be no more leaving him unguarded on the changing table.

June 6, 2008 ~ Tonight Cole had a taste of baby cereal for the first time, and being the eater he is we thing he liked it. or at least the idea of it.

June 16, 2008 ~ Cole Bogan is getting to the point where he is reaching milestones, its the fun part for the parents after being exhausted from long nights and cleaning up throw up and diapers. Cole held his own bottle today at daycare, figuring out how to eat has never been a problem, he also is trying to bring his legs up underneath him while on his stomach. Cole smiles allot, sometimes you would think he couldn't smile any bigger but he rarely laughs out loud. Only Avery can make Cole laugh out loud, its extremely funny and fun to watch.

June 22, 2008 ~ Cole received his first haircut ever!!! dad finally wore mom down and was allowed to trim the do, so the permahawk was tamed.

June 25, 2008 ~ Well holy potato Batman!!! Tonight at Moe's Pizza night Court sat our little child up on the table and low and behold she let go and he sat there. He didn't sit there for long but he did sit long enough to balance himself and stop himself from falling a few times. I think it was the audience. Our little boy is growing up, just the other night Court was playing a serious and intense game of peak a boo and had Cole laughing. A real whole hearty laugh, but as soon as I got the camera out he stopped, you can't tell me he's going to be camera shy. One time when Court was pregnant right before he was born he was kicking so much that I had to tape it but as soon as I got the camera out he quit. He was camera shy from the beginning, at least he's consistent.

July 22, 2008 ~ Cole is on the move. He is starting to crawl. He can get himself up on all fours but hasn't mastered the standard crawl. But he can army crawl with the best of them. If he wants a toy or shiny object he definitely gets to where he wants to go.

August 1, 2008 ~ Cole's 6 month Dr. apt. He's now on the chart, 21lbs(90%) and 27in(75%) tall. Dr. Plonk said everything is going just fine, which we are always happy to hear.

August 2, 2008 ~ Cole ate baby food for the first time, we chose mixed vegetables. Cole is not a fan of tasty things, I know its the beginning but he does not like squash and green beans. He's a bland man, food is for eating not enjoying. That may change.

August 11, 2008 ~ Cole's first full blown ear infection, and its a doosy. He is absolutely miserable and seriously doesn't like the medicine. Seriously doesn't like the medicine! Seriously, did I mention he doesn't like the medicine. He throws up at the first taste. Even though he isn't feeling well he is still a very mellow child and is rather pleased to be entertained by his big sis. When Cole isn't feeling bad he loves the crinkly sound from his baby toys and will crawl where ever to reach it.

August 16, 2008 ~ Cole has been the definition of mobil lately. He never wants to sit still, he may not be crawling but he's not sitting still. He loves grab for moms hands and pull himself up to his feet. Today for the first time he sat up on his own, right from a crawl he propped himself up and pushed himself back to a seated position. He is still a very happy child and loves to be entertained by his sister, they can make each other laugh for a good 10 mins or so.

August 17, 2008 ~ Well, after accomplishing the sitting up on his own thing Cole pulled himself up on one of those walk behind toys. He pulled himself up on the front which has all the noise making buttons and it was a pretty shaky event but he did pull himself up to his feet. Soon after he feel down and bumped his head. The exciting thing for Cole was that today Mom and Avery took Cole on his first wagon ride, he is a pro at sitting up and checking things out. If Cole is allowed to sit up in the stroller or wagon and see everything I think he would just sit there until he got hungry with no problem, he just loves it! Trips to the store where he sits in the stroller go very well, he never cries and loves to be there.

August 20,2008 ~ Today at daycare Cole stood up in his crib for the first time. He is becoming extremely mobil and isn't happy unless he is riding in front of the stroller, sitting up, in the bath tub, or crawling across the floor. At Daycare they call him the swimmer because he never stops kicking his legs. He loves the bath and with sister Avery there to make him laugh he is in heaven. Now when he hears the tub water running he crawls immediately towards the bathroom.

August 26, 2008 ~ Cole is a mover and shaker. He constantly tries to pull him self up on the couch and the little walker toy. Today we moved his crib down to the lowest setting so there will be no accidents. He hit us with an double ear infection and so we got different medicine which he takes much better than the last which is wonderful for us. Soon he will be moving up to the mobile infant class at daycare with Ms. Puff.

September 1, 2008 ~ Cole's 2nd hair but, once the Hawk becomes the Wave its time for the haircut so that's what he got. His hair is so light now that it looks really thin but with a shorter haircut the hawk stands straight up. He has also has learned the master crawl, boy does he have it down now. He moves pretty quick and tries to pull himself up on everything, the good thing is that he is getting better at falling down to his butt. He is still such a pleasant boy, he only laughs the most hard for Avery but We aren't jealous, she is pretty funny.

September 6, 2008 ~ Off to Goldsboro for a wedding and while at the grandparents house Cole decided he was going to begin walking along furniture. He pulls right up on anything he can and while holding onto the furniture he definitely will walk from end to end.

September 16, 2008 ~ Big Cole had his first taste of some real food, real as a 7 month old can get. Today we gave him some toddler puffs, and he tried real hard to hone his motor skills in to get as many in his mouth as he could.

October 7, 2008 ~ Cole had his first Cheerio, no teeth yet but still munches on the cheerios. Court has been predicting teeth for, Oh...about 4 months now. Cole is still a happy little/big boy even though he has to fight through another double ear infection. This time when he gets rid of the ear problems we will probably go in for the tubes. For a while now Court and I have been trying to avoid the outcome but since we hear that it will alleviate our headachs...and his we are becoming very excited about the tubes. It will be funny if he acts different when he doesn't have ear infections since he's so happy and fun with them, I think what it will do is allow mom not to feel bad when he cries at night because we'll know its not his ears.

October 11, 2008 ~ Cole has started to clap. He loves crawling around, walking along all things, venturing into the bathroom, and chewing on Avery's toys but now he'll smile and clap on purpose. Cole loves his sister and she still remains the sole individual who can make he laugh out loud when ever she wants. When mom or dad try he smiles as big as can be and makes a sound like he's choking...its a happy choking sound for the record.

October 16, 2008 ~ Today it was confirmed Baby Cole has a tooth. His bottom right tooth broke through, Court can finally say I told you so after 4 months of telling us so now it happened. Another amazing thing today, Cole was non stop making a bee line for Avery's Sippy cup of milk so Court put water in one of Avery's other cups and Cole went right for it, drank it down. Amazing. He is supper mobile, loves to crawl to the bathroom, loves walking behind his walker toy and pulls up and walks along anything and everything. Its almost a pain because he never sits still anymore, but he is determined and we like that. He is still the cutest little boy and his teachers love him.

October 19, 2008 ~ Quickly following his first tooth comes his second. It looks like he will also begin life with the reverse rabbit that sister Avery pioneered. Cole's school has been putting him in the older infant class and soon he will probably move permanently. This comes with much sadness for Mom who has to watch her little boy grow up and Dora(cole's infant teacher) who just loves him and says every time she looks at him he makes her laugh. In the older infant class during nap time Cole sleeps on a cot. Just like that, from crib to toddler cot...rediculus

October 21, 2008 ~ Tonight when I was ready Avery's two night time books cole was exploring the house as he usually does, either crawling to any of the bathrooms or trying to find any piece of garbage on the floor that can fit into his mouth. he crawled to the far wall of our bedroom then sat turning around. I could see him through the hall as I was sitting in the adjacent bedroom, so I waved a big obnoxious wave and...wait for it...wait...He waved back. Those little things get ya. Big Dr. appointment on friday to see if his ears are clear then they will probably schedule the tubes to be put in.
