Avery Elizabeth Bogan
Courtney was absolutely the champion of all champions. Baby Girl born Jan. 3, 2006 @ 11:21pm.
HOME ~ BABY JOURNAL ~ BABY POLL ~ PICTURES ~ BROTHER COLE
May 16, 2005 ~ Found out we were pregnant after only 3
pregnancy tests... Darn that + and -. We had to finally break down
and buy the digital one that has a definitive "PREGNANT." Would
have preferred a phone call and an email but the digital
"PREGNANT" was sufficient.
May 19, 2005 ~ Made the call to the Doc, the appointment was made in June. Apparently it is common practice to schedule the first prenatal visit only when you are 8-10 weeks pregnant. I recommend that be changed. We have many questions!!
June 13, 2005 ~ First Prenatal Visit. Gloria was the nurse/midwife and she was excellent. Everyone was great and we are very excited that we are able to use this practice. Got an ultrasound, those freaky pictures we used to see from everyone else started to look so awesome. 5.1 cm and due in the first week in January ...Typical Bogan
July 13, 2005 ~ Second Prenatal Visit. Dr. Dupree said we have to wait 2 more months to find out if it is a boy or a girl. 2 MORE MONTHS...... Courtney thinks its going to be a girl.
August 14, 2005 ~ Courtney felt the baby kick for the first time.
August 15, 2005 ~ Third Prenatal Visit. Gloria was her reassuring and helpful self. She reassured Courtney that a 5 lbs weight gain for one month is fine, that not being able to hear the heart beat on our home 'BeBe Sounds' heartbeat finder is ok because hers is over $800 dollars and ours isn't. She helped us by sneaking us in to an ultrasound to find out the sex of our baby, unfortunately the baby was sleeping exactly like courtney in a little ball and no gender could be found. But judging by only sleeping position and that courtney still thinks its a girl, the general consensus is that its going to be a girl. Court thinks soccer star I think field hockey and spelling bee champ, we'll let you know in 15 years.
September 4, 2005 ~ For the past few weeks I have made Courtney tell me every time she felt the baby move. Today, for the first time I felt it myself.
September 8, 2005 ~ Fourth Prenatal & Sonogram Visit. This visit was the big one, we found out that we are expecting a baby girl who is presently weighing 1 lbs 4oz. We were excited to hear that everything is progressing well and Courtney and the baby are perfectly healthy. When the doctor was checking to see if the baby was a boy or girl he said in jest, "Now lets see if it's a boy, girl, or puppy." Courtney quickly responded, "I hope its not a puppy we have our fair share of those!" Here are some of the ultrasound pictures from our visit.
September 19, 2005 ~ Today was the first day that Court and I SAW the baby kick. Today is also the first day that I realized that the Belly has become a separate entity, when Court gets home I hear about her day, then I get an update on the Belly's day. Much to Courtney's dismay the belly button has officially become an Outie.
September 21, 2005 ~ First day of Lamaze! We were late to our first day of classes so stop signs and turn signals seemed to be optional, to our dismay a nice shinny police car followed us in to the hospital parking lot...then into the hospital...and into lamaze class. He and his wife are having twins. 1st class covered all interventions(epidural, cesarean, induction) and a tour of the hospital, Court has already picked out her room.
September 28, 2005 ~ Second Lamaze Class. We learned that Courtney is going to feel pretty crappy after the baby is born and I can hold her like a football.
October 5, 2005 ~ Third Lamaze Class. Dr. Ng (pronounced engee) talked to us about what we are going to do with this child we are about to have, from shots to breast feeding. We also had a visit from the 'Lactation Specialists.' Never even thought that someday someone would make a living as a lactation Specialist.
October 6, 2005 ~ Fifth Prenatal Visit and the Gestational Diabetes Test, Court took it like a champ. She said it tasted like melted orange popsicle with extra sugar. We saw Gloria and she was her outstanding self, and with her help I was able to feel the baby's head through Court's stomach.
October 18, 2005 ~ Sixth Prenatal Visit. During our visit today we saw Dr. Dupree and he had a little bit of news for us. The Gestational Diabetes Test came back and everything looked good; he told us that since Courtney is walking regularly and drinking lots of water she is doing everything right; Courtney gained 1.5 lbs since last visit, the baby now weighs 2.8 lbs, and the belly is 30cm. On the naming front, we have narrowed it down to two names that we are torn between, Courtney feels that once she is born we are going to know which name is hers.
October 26, 2005 ~ Fourth Lamaze Class. This was the breathing class, Court had to find her happy place.
November 2, 2005 ~ Fifth Lamaze Class. This class was helpful, we watched a couple of videos that gave us a little more info on what to expect in labor. The big point of the class was to teach us how to tell when Courtney begins real labor and at what point we should go to the hospital. Real Labor = Contractions that last 45 - 60 secs and are 5 mins apart for one complete hour.
November 3, 2005 ~ Seventh Prenatal Visit. Saw Gloria again, she assured us that she was going to be in town around the time our baby is due. Courtney has gained a total of 17 lbs thus far, and Gloria expects the baby to be on the lighter side, weighing around 7.4 lbs. This confirms that basketball and volleyball will probably not be in her future. Correction, It has been brought to my attention that even though she will be small at birth she could quite possibly enjoy a healthy volleyball career. We can only hope...Thanks Julia for a wonderful thought that our baby might make it past garden gnome status.
November 5, 2005 ~ Courtney had her very first baby shower thrown for her by the wonderful people she works with at Southpoint Cardiology. Thank you so much for your generosity and well wishes, they are much appreciated.
November 9, 2005 ~ Sixth and Final Lamaze Class. This was our final class so we asked all the questions we could think of. We learned the stages of labor 1)Active Labor lasting 1 - 4 hours Dilation from 4 - 7 cm and contractions 3 - 4 mins apart lasting 40 - 60 secs. 2)Transition which lasts .5 - 2.5 hours Dilation from 8 - 10 cm and contractions 1 - 2 mins apart lasting 60 - 90 secs. 3)Pushing & Delivery lasting 1 - 3 hours with contractions 3 - 5 mins apart lasting 60 - 90 sec. Armed with this and all the other info we could soak up we are ready to 'Get 'er Done'.
November 15, 2005 ~ Eight Prenatal Visit. Gloria confirmed that everything is fine and that Court is all clear for travel to NC for the Thanksgiving Holiday, however when we get back we will begin doctor visits every week until the baby comes.
November 21-26, 2005 ~ Thanksgiving Break. Since traveling for Christmas and New Year will be impossible due to our ultimate holiday gift we decided to take the whole week of Thanksgiving off and go see some of the family. This will be that last chance we get to travel due to the risk of being away from the hospital and Courtney becoming increasingly uncomfortable. We loaded up the Family Car with our two great danes, a car topper, the driver and the preggie and started off on our 8.5 hour drive to NC.
November 20, 2005 ~ UNC Shower. Courtney's friends from UNC hosted a brunch baby shower in Raleigh, NC. Courtney said it was great to see everyone, especially because it was the first time in over 2 years all of her friends had been able to get together. Graduating, moving, working, and beginning a family tends to make times when they can get together few and far between, so the shower meant that much more to Courtney.
November 23, 2005 ~ Duke Family Shower. The Duke Fam all got together to celebrate the new addition of a Grandchild and Great GrandChild to the Duke Family over chicken salad and soup! We were grateful for the incredible and generous gifts and were thankful that Courtney was feeling well enough to make the 8 hour haul to Greensboro, NC so that we could see everyone and that everyone could experience the belly.
November 26, 2005 ~ Goldsboro Shower. Three of Courtney's close friends from high school/church hosted this shower for Court. After Courtney's parents moved away from Goldsboro, it was more difficult for Courtney to get together with these friends and their annual Martin Luther King weekend trips began to dwindle. The baby shower gave Courtney the chance to see and catch up with the old Goldsboro, NC..we appreciate everyone's thoughtfulness so much!
November 28, 2005 ~ Ninth Prenatal Visit. Standard procedure, Gloria wanted to check up on Courtney since we were gone the entire week prior. Everything looked good and Courtney only gained one pound in a week and a half. Gloria mentioned again that this baby isn't going to be the biggest baby ever, Courtney seems pleased about that.
December 6, 2005 ~ Tenth Prenatal Visit. Everything is moving along just fine. Court got a sample of a heartburn medicine to get her thru the tough nights. Courtney is now beginning to tire more quickly and by the end of the day she's beginning to feel whooped, but she is taking it like a trooper. Today we packed our bag for the hospital which really made Courtney feel like its about time...que the nesting characteristic in the preggie. We were disappointed when Kerry, our nurse at the doctors office who endures all our silly questions that we are too afraid to ask Gloria, said that since she doesn't work for the hospital she can't be our labor nurse. But, I'm still going to work on her. Kerry also made an excellent guess for the Baby Poll, if I do say so myself. For those who didn't know I added a page to the site, its a Baby Poll, so remember to email me your guess for the delivery date and you get bonus points if you guess a weight.
December 14, 2005 ~ Eleventh Prenatal Visit. Business as usual. Courtney gained 3 lbs...she took off her shoes, weighed herself again and only gained half a pound. For the past weeks Courtney has been feeling Braxton Hicks Contractions. She first thought the baby was just "balling up real tight," later we learned that 'Balling Up' = 'Braxton Hicks.' Courtney has been trying to ignore the contractions because she plans to work until the 23rd, and only then will labor be an acceptable option in her mind.
December 22, 2005 ~ Twelfth Prenatal Visit. Courtney has been feeling allot of Braxton Hicks contractions, and today Gloria said that there will be no definite moment where labor begins. At some point those contractions just turn into labor. To this date Courtney has gained a total of 24 lbs., and its ok for me to comment on her weight because she's pregnant.
December 23, 2005 ~ We got a little nervous tonight. Court said she was feeling off and had cramps, even put the already packed bags in the car and the night bags near the door. By 9pm it seemed like we were given a reprieve, seems like our little baby is picking her birthday.
December 29, 2005 ~ Thirteenth Prenatal Visit and our official due date. When we went to our check up Courtney was 1cm dilated but the baby was still high. Gloria said that Courtney could possible stay dilated 1cm for a while, so we need not get too anxious. Needless to say we are still excited to know that the whole process has begun. Court has been home since last friday and had a chance to get the things that she wanted in order, so she is READY for the baby to come.
January 3, 2006 ~ Avery's Birthday! Here's the lowdown. Courtney woke up this morning around 4:30 and said to me that she thinks today might be the day. We had our Fourteenth Prenatal Visit at 9:30 so we hung around the house cleaning up and preparing the dogs. At the visit they monitored the baby and the contractions which where coming about 5 mins apart which seemed to be rather close seeing as she was only 2cm dilated.
We continued to drive around town to take her mind off of things and went and had lunch. At 3:30 we headed back to the doctors office to see if Courtney's labor had progressed. At this time we were thinking that it had because I was timing the contractions and there wasn't a contraction that was further apart than 4.5 mins and they were all lasting 45 secs. But alas, Courtney was still only dilated 2 to 2.5cm.
We went home hoping to take a little nap and maybe watch a movie. I put up some stuff in the baby's room and Court tried to take a nap but by the time we got home Court said that the contractions started hurting her so bad she couldn't even lay down. So every 4 mins when a contraction came Court would stand up and rest all her weight on me while we swayed back and forth. We tried to take a walk around the block and had about 14 contractions while on the walk, stopping every contraction to rest her weight and sway. About an hour later, whether she was 3 cm or not, it was time to go to the hospital. Courtney was hurting so bad she could barely do anything but wait for the next contraction.
We had everything packed up, so we drove to the hospital around 6:30 and checked in. Our doctor happened to be there and when Courtney checked in he was able to check her and she was only 3+ cm dilated. This of course put a damper on Courtney's spirits, since she was in so much pain and the contractions were coming so fast she had figured she had progressed further than that. They monitored the baby and the contractions a while then allowed Court to get into the shower, were she figured she would be more comfortable. Court got into the shower at about 8:00.
I can not express enough about how much pain Courtney was in, she said that the pain was so powerful in her back she could barely stand in the shower, I think it looked 150 times worse than that. She barely had enough time to rest between contractions because they were coming so fast. She had to get out of the shower so they could monitor the baby once again so she got out to be monitored and then Gloria our midwife came into the room. Courtney said that if she hadn't progressed past four cm she wasn't going to be able to make it. Around 9:30 Gloria checked her and said, "your not going to believe this, but your 8cm" and within the next 20 mins Courtney had progressed to being completely dilated.
And, all of a sudden the nurses that were just standing around and watching, jumped up and began preparing for the birth. I have never seen anything like it...all of a sudden stuff started to happen, tables were brought in, they changed the bed around, computer monitoring changed and things were ready. I said to Courtney that her baby was coming soon and she was still managing between contractions. Than Gloria said, "I'm can feel that she has hair." Courtney got the urge to push and at 11:21 our baby was born.
There is no way I can express in words or any other way the happenings of that night, the pain Courtney felt in labor and the work that she put in but I figured I would at least give you all a little description to let you all know that everything went well and in the end Courtney came out a champion and our little girl was born. Natural Childbirth is the most remarkable thing and gave me a great appreciation for pregnancy, labor and birth. The only last thing I can say is that labor was the most painful thing I have ever seen and birth was the most amazing.
January 6, 2006 ~ After a long stay in the hospital and the many tests done on the baby we were finally allowed to go home as new, inexperienced, willing parents. We didn't get much sleep this first night at home, and that's not all Avery's fault.
January 9, 2006 ~ Avery let us go out to dinner for the first time, The A1A Ale House. Actually it was the first time we tried but even so we made it, so officially we can say we took Avery to a bar at 6 days old. She slept the whole time and even long enough for us to get a quick carmel apple.
January 17, 2006 ~ Avery's first doctors appointment with Dr. Bhargava. Everything looked great she is 20 in long and 8lbs 5oz.
January 20, 2006 ~ After weeks of anticipation Avery's umbilical cord feel off today ...pretty gross, but allot easier to install diapers.
February 13,2006 ~ Avery has been smiling off and on for about a week now but we have been able to tell its just a facial action. Today Courtney made her smile as a reaction. She also has begun to focus more on her toys hanging from her swing and bouncer which gives her parents more 'Avery Awake Time Without Crying.'
February 25, 2006 ~ Avery is officially unable to fit into newborn clothes.
March 8, 2006 ~ Today Avery got her 2 month shots, this was the most awful thing since the whole labor experience. She had two shots in her left leg and one in her right, and even though the nurse was very sweet Avery cried like she never has before. The parents roles went as follows...daddy held her to her doom and mom sympathy cried.
March 14, 2006 ~ Due to some insurance issues Avery's 2 month check up was at 10 weeks. Dr. B said Avery looked great and her development was right on track. She weight in at 12 lbs 8 oz (75th percentile). 23.25 in long (50-75th percentile), and her head circumference was 15.5 in (50th percentile). We don't go back to see Dr.B again until May!
March 15, 2006 ~ Avery laughed out loud for the first time tonight! Maybe at her parents for taking her to Pizza Night or maybe at the goofy little mall that Pizza Night is in but we really think it was just at Richard. Richard made her laugh like none other...She thought he was hilarious. Her mom and dad have tried to make her laugh since, but have yet to be successful.
April 1, 2006 ~ This was a busy week for Avery! We all took the week off from everything and hopped a plane to Tucson, Arizona. Avery flew for the first time and behaved wonderfully, we were a little worried she would be “that baby” on the plane, but lucky for us there were three extremely loud kids sitting behind us. We all visited Grandpa Bogan, Sherry and Great-Grandma & Great-Grandpa Bogan, trotted through the desert and visited Mount Lemon, Boot Hill, and Tombstone . Avery stayed home the whole day away from mom for the first time and was babysat by her Great-Grandparents while her parents were gallivanting around and even took a day trip to Mexico! The day apart was was a lot harder on Mom than on Avery!
April 13, 2006 ~ Avery made her first 8 hour drive to North Carolina out of the womb this weekend. Avery got to meet many of her relatives on the Duke side, including her Great-Grandmama and Great-Granddaddy Duke as well as Papa and Lanie. Avery also attended her first wedding, we could tell she was getting ideas.
May 3, 2006 ~ Avery received her second round of shots today at her four month appointment. Doctor said she still looks great and is right on track developmentally. She weighed in at 14 lbs 6 oz and was 25.5 in long.
May 14, 2006 ~ Avery was a rolling over master today; she rolled over and even got her arm out from under her after she rolled. We figured such an active baby needed an active diet so today was the first day we fed Avery Rice Cereal... she didn't necessarily eat it. She still has yet to master the tongue thing.
May 27, 2006 ~ When we went to pull Avery out of her bed this morning, she was laying on her belly. She has officially become mobile.
June 3, 2006 ~ Since Avery has been doing pretty well with the rice cereal we decided to move her along to veggies. Her first real baby food was carrots, and her first real messy diaper was carrots too.
June 6, 2006 ~ Avery has been face planting today. She slams her face to the floor and pulls her knees under herself. She even fell asleep one night in that tripod position. It was kind of a surprise for us seeing as we have been trying to just get her to sit up without our help and then she went ahead and decided she was more concerned about crawling.
June 8, 2006 ~ Avery Bogan is a nut!! Today she not only sat up for a good while balancing herself on her quilt, she also pulled her knees under her and pushed up on her hands. She doesn't stay on all fours for long, one or two rocks and she's back down, I'm sure it won't be long.
June 27, 2006 ~ For awhile now Avery has been getting up on all fours and lunging forward on her face to move around, so we expected her to crawl a step or two soon and sure enough today Avery crawled for the first time. It was kind of an awkward crawl since it looked like she was dragging one lame leg behind her but she gets to where she wants to go now.
July 3, 2006 ~ Today we lowered Avery's mattress to the lowest level because she was just too close to pulling up on the edge. Once we lowered it we laughed at how it looked like a jail so we threw the inmate inside just to get the total picture. Once inside, believe it or not, Avery grabbed onto the slats and pulled herself right up and grabbed onto the rail. Court and I congratulated ourselves for lowering the crib at the right time...Self High Five!!!
July 4, 2006 ~ Much to mom's amazement and nervousness Avery crawled on over to her, pushed up on moms legs and stood right up, immediately followed by sitting right down. I wish everyone could have seen Courtney's facial expression when that happened...I think it was shock'n awe.
July 22, 2006 ~ Today on her long trip to North Carolina, Avery tried her first 'Soquid.' We really couldn't tell if she liked it because her response was the expression we like to call the 'Stone Face'. Avery has the best no blink, straight faced stare right through you that there has ever been in the history of all stone faces. Her title as 'Stone Face' is backed up by all strangers who come up to her and try to make her laugh and say, "I've never had a baby just stare at me like that, it looks like she is trying to figure me out."
August 6, 2006 ~ Avery has perfected the grunt and she perfected it to signify that she wants more of my drink. She loves cups, glasses and anything she sees us drink out of. I usually let her play with the cup or glass and the occasional straw from time to time but today I gave her a little sip of her own, and once the horrified and surprised look on her face went away she did the most excellent forced grunt to tell me she wanted more. I am serious, this was the full blown pursed lips, squint one eye, deep from the gut grunt. Court and I laughed so hard...then gave her another sip from the cup...then laughed...then another sip...laughed...sip..
August 13, 2006 ~ For the past few weeks Avery has been walking along side of the furniture, crawling over to it and then standing up on the sliding glass door to make fun of the dogs (which are in the back). She has gotten very good at the furniture walk and today instead of her usual butt drop and crawl from the couch to the chair she just walked right over. Granted, it was shaky but none the less they were her first few steps as a two legged homosapien. She has also been making many sounds worth noting, the funniest is the grunt, but she has also figured out how to make a kissing sound, she makes a gargled sound I call it the Vader, and of course her laugh.
August 15, 2006 ~ With much anticipation Avery cut her first tooth today. It was the bottom right and with the looks of it she will be the reverse bunny because her bottom left isn't far behind. In addition her endeavors to walk have included a full body squat thrust to stand up in the middle of the floor and the walk-stop-pivot to regain balance then continue.
September 23, 2006 ~ Court and I have now learned the true roll of the Grandparents, they suffer no consequences and thus have no fear. The fear of 'Is my child ready to eat real food' or 'I'm just not sure if she can do that', is not one of the Grandparents. Today Grandma Odor fed Avery cheerios for the first time. The big news of the day wasn't that she got Avery to eat cheerios for the first time, it was that she also taught Avery to feed herself cheerios for the first time.
September 25, 2006 ~ Well, we've moved to Charlotte, NC and along with us came the dogs and a very off schedule baby. However, we figured she was doing OK when in the apartment clubhouse signing the lease, Avery learned how to and then spent all of her time climbing up the stairs.
October 9, 2006 ~ First day of Daycare. After a few weeks of being at home with dad, which both Avery and Dad agree is just not the same as 'at home with Mom,' Avery started her first day at daycare. Ms. Ayanna & Ms. Angie are quickly becoming best buds with Avery.
October 29, 2006 ~ PumpkinFest 2006, Avery now has been to her first annual pumpkinfest which subsequently she will now be required to attend all future PumpkinFests . She didn't sleep at all today which is becoming a habit for her and even let us put on her rooster costume.
October 31, 2006 ~ At daycare today Avery brought in Cheese Puffs for the fall festival! When we picked her up she had eaten many extremely orange Cheese Puffs, which made her one extremely orange Cheese puff herself.
November 1, 2006 ~ Avery's 10 month doctor visit (in place of her 9 month visit because of our big move). Avery saw Dr. Riley at Providence Pediatrics where her mom is THE BOSS , she weighed 18lbs 14oz and was 29 inches tall.
December 3, 2006 ~ The third tooth came through this morning. Her left Canine and her right is soon to follow. Avery is becoming a big girl, to and from daycare she walks in and out carrying her bag. Although sometimes she gets distracted and our trips in and out can last 30 mins.
December 22, 2007 ~ Christmas at the Dukes and best face so far, Avery's Surprise Face...just in time for christmas presents. She loves opening presents and then following it up with her surprise face...a crowd favorite.
January 3, 2007 ~ We celebrated Avery's 1st birthday on pizza night. Cake, pizza, and an Elmo Balloon topped the list of presents. The all star cast included the Balls, the Klauders, the Wyatts, and Kris
January , 2007 ~ Avery's one year doctors visit.
January, 2007 ~ Since Avery is now one year old she now moves to the toddler class at daycare, But.....in the toddler class they are not allowed to have bottles so Avery has had a immediate crash course in sippy cup 501. Cold turkey off the bottles was harder for her parents than Avery. It only took about 5 days and she had it all figured out including the fact the the top can pop off and make a really cool mess on the floor.
February 2007 ~ Although Avery has been uttering her momma and dadda's she has now beginning to expand her vocabulary. Ball, Bubbles,
February 9, 2007 ~ Pointed to her noise on command for the first time.
March 6, 2007 ~ Avery began to break it down, once mom and dad bust a move Avery will join in.
March 13, 2007 ~ Avery, Mom, & Amber Byrd went to Duke Gardens to take Avery's yearly pictures. Without question the best picture ever is the pickle picture.
March 24, 2007 ~ Edmund Ball scrounged up a back yard play set for Avery. It has a swing, totter, and slide. I now can be completely obvious to the neighbors that the Bogan's have kids.
March 26, 2007 ~ Since the addition of the play set Avery has made it her mission to master this new toy. Today she learned how to climb the ladder to the slide all by herself. She now climbs the ladder and slides down the slide all by her self. She also likes to walk up the slide to get to the top. She's fearless!
May 22, 2007 ~ Avery (and Avery's parents) found out today that Avery Elizabeth Bogan will have a little brother or little sister in about nine months.
May 28, 2007 ~ This week Avery has been getting some of her back teeth in, we can tell its painful. More slobber, more crying, and more fevers.
April 13, 2007~ After Diaper changes if mom or dad ask, she will take her dirty diaper and walk to the kitchen and throw it away by her self.
June 3, 2007 ~ While Court and I were watching TV and Avery was being her busy little self walking around the house she had gone in her room and got her pj's from her dresser drawer and brought them to us in the living room to be dressed. It seems as though she will not have any problems getting ready for bed. Since then she now goes and gets her wipes and diapers when she needs to be changed. This was the realization that we now need to start the potty training.
June 6, 2007 ~ Without Avery's consent, she now has no more pacifiers and surprisingly does not seem to mind.
June 10, 2007 ~ Courtney has been sitting Avery on her potty off and on for a little while, but this morning after much cheering from the choir she used her potty for the first time. We were excited until we had to empty it out.
Update 07/10/07 she hasn't used it since.
June 15, 2007 ~ Avery put on her own shoes today, even thought they are old school velcro and the tongue was pushed way down inside.
July 6, 2007 ~ Avery's 18month well check with Dr. Riley. 24.6lbs and 32"short
July 23 -28, 2007 ~ Avery spent this week at the beach with the Dukes, she has definitely become welcoming off the ocean. Loves jumping into the waves and getting sand in unknown areas.
September 13, 2007 ~ Today Avery started in a new daycare, complete with a letter of the week, color of the week, and homework. This day care seems to be a more classy, dare I say upscale day care. Avery is coming from, dare I say a more ghetto day care, other side of the tracks day care. her first few days she was known as the bitter. They say the first day anywhere you have to establish yourself, she was. It all passed and Avery has the best teachers Ms Lindsay and Ms TT who have nicknamed her Boaggie!! When you ask Avery who is Boagie she will say "I'm Boaggie"
September 19, 2007 ~ Avery's morning ritual is to be brought into mom and dads room be put on the bed and watch Higglytown Hero's followed by Tigger & Pooh. Her new word is now tiggapoo
October 20, 2007 ~ Avery's first haircut, just a trim, a little off the ends. Gave her a popsicle to distract and away went the hair
October 22, 2007 ~ Avery's teacher at daycare has decided that she will be in panties and asked her parents to please bring panties to school with her. Daddy was skeptical because of his fear of poop. Avery now tells us when she has to go to the potty, takes her cloths off, climbs up on the toilet herself, wipes, climbs down, flushes, then runs out of the bathroom screaming, "I did it" butt naked...every time!!!
October 31, 2007 ~ Avery was a lady bug for halloween. She definitely got the gist of the event, run up to complete strangers-get candy-run to keep up with the older kids-repeat. After a great and happy night, mom decided tonight was the night that Avery will begin sleeping in her new room in her big girl bed. It took a little prodding but she did it, she's a trooper. This marks the beginning of the required changes she will be put threw due to her either, awesome baby brother or retched crying thing.
November 10, 2007 ~ Avery has been talking allot and has been for awhile, she sometimes speaks in full sentences but only understandable to herself except for the last word "cereal." Avery now all on her own without her parents knowledge will go into the kitchen, get out a plastic baggie, and want cereal to walk around the house with. She is definitely independent and wants to do all things on her own. When daddy wants to help he gets a "No Daddy"
November 22, 2007 ~ Thanksgiving. The Bogan Family traveled long and far for this holiday because shortly Avery will be having a baby brother and mom won't be able to travel for Christmas. Through the time spent at both of Avery's grandparents houses this week I must say that she definitely knows the role of Grandparents
November 26, 2007 ~ Avery has got her bedtime routine down. Hug Saige, Hug Mommy, back to her room to have books read to her, First 'Hungry Caterpillar' then 'tiggapoo' when Tigger says"HELLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" then '5 Little Monkeys', lights off, head on the pillow covered up with moms homemade quilt, good night kiss for dad and that's all she wrote!!!
December 18-21, 2007 ~ Avery was picked up by her grandparents and spent her time in Goldsboro with her cousin Charlie. I can only assume that Avery was treated very well and as queen bee due to her rude awakening when she got back home. She had to go through a mini boot camp to get her back in the swing of things
December 2007 ~ There were many presents and much food throughout Avery's Christmas Extravaganza. Avery's grandparents are much to generous and as such Avery definitely has the Grandparent Role down. Avery got an easel, baby dolls, books, tea set, puzzles, cloths, shoes, giraffe and you name it. She is definitely a blessed child.
January 3, 2008 ~ 2nd Birthday!!! Grandma & Grandpa came into town, Avery's school teachers, and many others congregated at the Ye Olde "Chuck E. Cheese" and it was AWESOME. Dad will probably have his 32nd birthday there next year. Needless to say Avery was running on fumes by the end of the night, but even as a two year old she ran her parents in to the ground...and dad was trying to keep up. Since she is two now she has to move up to the next classroom at her school. She loves her teachers Lindsay and TT so it will be hard for her. In order to move to the next classroom she has to be able to say her first and last name, ABC's, colors(english & spanish), and numbers(english & spanish). Supposedly she does but we haven't heard them at home.
January 20, 2008 ~ While Avery's parents wait patiently for baby brother to come Avery continues to test her boundaries, we think she is in for a rude awakening when brother comes along. No more Miss Priss. Avery knows her brother is coming, points to Mom's belly when asked where her brother is, and even what his name is but we think she has yet to really figure it out. Avery has moved to the next classroom at school and just the other day we caught her at home singing the ABC's to her self. We are always surprised when she just starts doing or saying something that she learned at school.
January 23, 2008 ~ Today was a big day for Avery and she didn't even know it. Courtney started feeling contractions this morning so we got up and made breakfast and dropped Avery off at daycare. Her life shall never be the same again. Edmund & Emily picked up Avery from school and brought her to the hospital to meet her little brother and see mom and dad. Her first question when entering the hospital room was, "where is baby Cole?".
February 1, 2008 ~ Avery's last day at school...at least for 3 months. Everyone at daycare said good-bye and that they will miss her. Next week she starts her days at home with mom and her brother.
February 26, 2008 ~ Mom, Avery, & Cole went on a big excursion today and Avery got herself a Princess Camping Set, complete with tent, sleeping bag, backpack, & water bottle. On Wednesday we leave to go to Florida and Avery will be camping on the floor of the hotel. She was EXTREMELY excited when we set her tent up in her room so we have our fingers crossed that she will stay excited but we think it will be a good trip.
February 27, 2008 ~ We all packed up and headed to our old stomping ground. The 7 hour trip was a success and we made it to our hotel and set up the tent. With a little coaxing Avery camped it up in the hotel room. She did well and Mom & Dad congratulated themselves on a brilliant idea.
February 29, 2008 ~ We dropped Avery off at the DeGregorio's for the evening so we didn't have to manage her during the rehearsal dinner. I don't think I can even explain how much fun she had. Scott said that at one point she had to sit down on the chair to catch her breath because she was playing so hard with Nick, Steph, and Victoria.
March 1, 2008 ~ Richard and Chenn's wedding! Avery loves weddings and during their first dance we had to stop Avery from running onto the dance floor to dance with them. She got upset with us and she said in her pouting/crying voice "I want to dance." She danced the rest of the night!
March 7, 2008 ~ Avery has pretty much completely regressed on using the potty. She refuses to go and won't even tell us when she goes in her diaper. We've had a couple of surprises walking into her room during nap time, where she has either pottied in her diaper or taken her diaper off and pottied... Yes, it's as awful as one could imagine.
March 22, 2008 ~ Avery is absolutely a wonderful child, she is sweet, smart and thoughtful...50% of the time. But she is so good that 50% of the time that we are willing to forget about the other half of the time. Lately she loves being read the Butter Battle Book by Dr. Suess and having Tea Parties with mom. Today she was on her tricycle and pedaled it under her own power for the first time.
April 14, 2008 ~ Avery's first day back at school from mom's maternity leave. We didn't know quite what to expect but we hoped for the best and really there was no reason it wouldn't be just fine. Avery has the knowledge and maturity level of a 10 year old. We both dropped her off and it was like she didn't miss a beat. She put her jacket away and said good bye to us like it was nothing, it was much harder for her parents. The good thing about Avery going to school is that she definitely tires herself out and now falls asleep much faster and she apparently has no problem going to the potty. She seems to have a mental block regarding the potty once she comes home.
April 20, 2008 ~ Avery went picking strawberries for the first time today! Granted it only took her 20 mins to fill up the basket but she went. As usual she was persistent that she will carry the strawberry basket AND pick the strawberries, we expected no less. Later in the day she remarked while sitting in her car seat, "I had a fun time picking strawberries." Court and I sometimes...always are amazed. She's only two, there is no way she will remember these times... or will she?
May 14, 2008 ~ Avery really enjoys time with her grandparents, who give her whatever she wants! She also enjoys riding her tricycle on the walk to our front door. We have decided that Avery is 100%, either 100% wonderful, fun and exciting or 100% miserable, tired, and tantrummy. We will still take it. One thing that she does very well is deal with Cole. She makes him laugh and always puts his pacifier in his mouth when it falls out, and she is never jealous which has been an extreme blessing. She's a great big sister.
June 1, 2008 ~ The major power struggle between the ever so strong Avery and her parents is in full force. Avery has been ahead on battles won up to this point in the war but the parents have just recently won a decisive battle which could change the tides of the war into the favor of the parents. Avery's tantrums are very impressive and we have been struggling to figure out how to handle the headstrong Avery, but through ignorance and shear luck we have instituted mobil timeouts and that crying will only be allowed in Avery's bedroom. It may sound simple but sometimes its the simple things that are so hard and ultimately successful that make life easier for the parents!
June 22, 2008 ~ Since many of our last posts have been about our tantrum riddled and headstrong child, we must update this post by stating how pleasant Avery has been. We are not sure if she is taking pity on us or if we finally got her sleep schedule right but whatever the cause, Avery has been extremely fun and pleasant. She makes us laugh with her faces and makes us happy when she usually listens.
June 25, 2008 ~ Court and I have been trying now to get Avery completely potty trained. She was so good in the beginning then regressed almost completely then slowly began picking it back up but for the past week with help from daycare we think we finally got her completely potty trained.
June 29, 2008 ~ Trip for the week with the grandparents, had the backs packed and the car loaded down. Avery is such a large part of the chaos that there will be a large void when she is gone, but who wouldn't want a week with their grandparents.
July 18-26, 2008 ~ Another trip with the grandparents, this time to the beach. Avery really enjoys being a part of new situations and having fun with everyone. At the beach she caught many sand fiddlers, played with her cousin Charlie and Aunt Rachel, built and destroyed lots of sand castles and from what we hear besides the occasional outburst was very pleasant, slept, and ate very well. Court and I felt that when she came home she was talking in constant complete sentences as if overnight, besides the fact that when asked she could offer up her full name and where she lived.
August 2, 2008 ~ Avery's room is maxed out, I think we have finally finished decorating her room. It literally takes us years to get things in order and decorated but it is finally finished.
August 6, 2008 ~ Avery now dresses herself including putting on her own shirt and socks. she also hasn't used the bathroom in her panties during the night for some time now.
August 25, 2008 ~ Good ol Anton came to visit for the night and took us all out to dinner, of course we chose the Japanese steakhouse where we have taken Avery in the past but this time she was into it. Figured out how to use chopsticks by herself for the first time and refused to use the fork. Granted it wasn't the right way but she got the food to her mouth. She loved the fire and the cook was eating out of her hand. I figure I should provide an update on Avery's regular routine now which is pretty constant but things get added. She wakes herself up in the morning, gets her cloths from her dresser which are laid out the night before, goes to the potty, sometimes feeds saige then wakes her parents up to turn on the Backyardagains. Then she either asks or goes and gets a nutrigrain bar from the pantry and sits back down until we make her put on her socks. This is not to mention that she has become the best baby monitor in the world, once her baby brother makes any noise or wakes up she is right in his room dictating his actions to his sleeping parents, whether its being awake, laughing or crying. Also it is fun to see her so happy with her room, whenever anyone comes over she wants to show them her room starting with her flower light and then her favorite books. She has and is becoming so little girlish that it scares and amazes us.
September 13, 2008 ~ This weekend we all packed up and went to stay with Laura Stone at her parents lake house. Avery did very well all weekend amidst all the distractions, there were 4 other kids there not including baby Cole and 6 couples. Avery forgets how timid she is of water until after she is in it for a while which I think is good for her. She jumped right into the lake and walked around up to her neck and by the end of the weekend Court had Avery floating around in the lake on a noodle. Avery really enjoyed the lake house, swimming, playing golf on the putting green and climbing on the play set
September 16, 2008 ~ This was a Bogan Family sanity day off from work, so we dropped Cole off at Daycare and Avery had the whole day with her parents. We went to the Lazy5Ranch, and saw all sorts of very large animals. Big Giraffes that would eat right out of Avery's bucket, cows which would walk right up to the wagon and nudge you for food. Avery really like letting the emus and ostriches peck food from her bucket. Avery was very excited and by the end of the day she was very tired.
September 2008 ~ Avery moved up to the next class. She now is back in the room with her old friends Carly, Gabby, and Jessica with whom she has an extreme love/hate relationship. Her new teachers call her the surgeon because when she washes her hands she ALOT of time lathering up.
